Forthcoming changes in employment law:
1. Agency workers/temporary staff
In legislation planned for Autumn 2008, agency workers/temporary staff will be given the same employment rights as permanent staff after 12 weeks in a job. Under the proposals, agency workers will be given equal pay and holiday entitlements (but not sick pay or pension payments). The proposed changes are likely to affect Practices which engage temporary staff though agencies - we’ll provide more information as it becomes available.
2. Extension of the rght to request to work flexibly
Subject to Parliamentary approval, the right to request flexible working will be extended to parents and adopters of children under 17, probably with effect from April 2009.
3. Statutory grievance and disciplinary procedures
The Government is proposing to withdraw the statutory grievance and disciplinary procedures (which were introduced in October 2004), probably with effect from April 2009.
